Waterpark Creek: a wonderful place to paddle

If you are visiting the Rockhampton Region do not miss the chance to paddle beautiful Waterpark Creek in the Byfield National Park north of Yeppoon. 3 Fitzroy Canoe Club members recently paddled from the causeway crossing at Waterpark Creek to the waterfall/rapids 5 km up the creek and return.

It is a freshwater paddle which has a few tightspots around fallen trees etc but nothing of great difficulty. A pleasant breakfast/lunch/dinner can then be had at local venues.

Launching area deck completed

A carpeted timber decking, built on 2 levels, has been completed at the launching area beside the Fitzroy River. This, as well as the launching ladder,  will make getting into and out of boats much easier.

Flood damage repaired.

Following severe flooding after the passage of cyclone Debbie earlier this year, the access ramp to the launch area has been repaired thanks to a $5000 grant from the Qld Government. A well attended working bee saw turf laid to complete the task.
